Wolves in the hunt for Shrewsbury's Jayson Leutwiler
Wolves are eyeing a move for Shrewsbury Town's out-of-contract goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler.
Leutwiler, whose deal expires this summer, is one of three keepers offered new deals at the Greenhous Meadow with Mark Halstead and Callum Burton.
It is unclear whether Town expect the 27-year-old to stay, but it's no surprise there is interest from the Championship in the former Middlesbrough reserve. Cardiff and Charlton were linked with moves for him in the January transfer window.
It is understood Wolves are looking to recruit at least one keeper this summer to challenge long-serving first choice Carl Ikeme with Emiliano Martinez back at Arsenal after his season-long loan and Aaron McCarey at Ross County following his release.
Ikeme is Wolves' only senior keeper if youngsters Jon Flatt and Ludlow's Harry Burgoyne are loaned out again.
And boss Kenny Jackett has also been linked with Charlton Athletic's shot-stopper Nick Pope.
However, he faces competition for the Addicks keeper from a host of Championship clubs keen on the 24-year-old as well as reported interested from Scottish champions Celtic.
A Wolves delegation including head coach Jackett and goalkeeping coach Pat Mountain watched Leutwiler in a 2-1 defeat against Walsall at the Banks's Stadium on April 26 when they also watched Saddlers stars Rico Henry and Tom Bradshaw.
Leutwiler is settled in Shrewsbury and has said he wants to stay, with contract talks under way but not concluded. But the lure of competing for a Championship place and not having to relocate might prove hard to resist.
Manager Micky Mellon, well blessed in the goalkeeping department, may feel he can allow Leutwiler to go.
He's made 90 appearances for Town and claimed the club record for clean sheets in 2014-15 when Salop were promoted from League Two with 26 shutouts in all competitions.
