Jackett: Ikeme must work to regain place

Boss Kenny Jackett has told he dropped goalkeeper Carl Ikeme must work to get his place back – and insisted Wolves earned their luck as they claimed a point.

Ikeme was left out on footballing reasons alone for the first time in three seasons for the 1-1 draw at home to Hull City.

Arsenal loanee Emiliano Martinez made his league debut for Wolves instead.

Ikeme, 29, watched on as Wolves came from behind to draw 1-1, with Allan McGregor's clanger handing James Henry the equaliser after Nikica Jelavic's penalty put Hull ahead.

Jackett felt the penalty – awarded for Kortney Hause's push on former Albion defender Curtis Davies – was harsh.

He said: "I felt it was a soft one but the referee's given it and that's it.

"We earned our luck with the goalkeeping mistake.

"I felt we created a number of chances – if we consistently create that amount and have the ball as much as we did, I would feel confident our goals return would be good.

"Overall it was a strong performance by our players, I wasn't disappointed at all."

Martinez joined on loan last week and had played against Newport in the Capital One Cup, while Ikeme was at fault for Blackburn's goal in Wolves' 2-1 win at Ewood Park last weekend.

"It's a big call," Jackett said. "I'm very confident in both goalkeepers. Emi Martinez is a top-class goalkeeper.

"Carl Ikeme hasn't done a lot wrong but it's a football decision and one I felt confident in.

"Carl was disappointed. Since I've been here, which is just over two years now, he has been the No.1 when fit. He's got to really work hard to regain his place."

Reports have again linked star striker Benik Afobe with a move to Aston Villa but Jackett added: "We're not interested in selling anybody.

"We're looking to keep our best players."
