Wolves' tally of 33 goals makes them the equal lowest scorers in the top 16 of the Championship bar Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham City.

And the head coach knows that Wolves need to start hitting the net if they are to be considered serious promotion contenders.

He said: "We've got to be able to open up and dominate teams – that's where we want to get to.

"To go one better and really be a good side, we need to be that tight at the back but create and score more goals.

"It's quite an obvious thing to say but that's how I feel and we'll endeavour to do that now in our team selection, in our training, and in our approach to it.

"We want to stay just as tight at the back but be able to up that goals tally to keep the pressure on the top six. An improved defensive record has helped us and made us more competitive.

"Now we'd like to keep that but be able to open up and score more goals at the other end. That's our aim."

Jackett also believes that Bakary Sako's return from Africa Cup of Nations duty will hand Wolves a new threat in the second half of the season.

The Wolves boss said: "A fully fit and flying Bakary Sako can help us and help us balance-wise because we haven't had enough down the left-hand side."

February will be a key month for Wolves as they take on Reading, Huddersfield, Norwich, Rotherham, Fulham plus Cardiff and Jackett knows his team are at the business end of the campaign.

He said: "Getting the right results is everything and if you win 1-0 every week then that's no problem. "We have tightened up.

"The run we were in when where we were just giving away too many goals every week wasn't even making us competitive and it put us in a very difficult situation."
