Kenny Jackett eyes long-term goals at Wolves
Kenny Jackett today insisted Wolves can use the Championship as a "stepping stone" as he targeted bringing lasting, long-term success at Molineux.
Wolves travel to Northampton to face Coventry tomorrow with the League One points record of Plymouth's 102 in 2001-02 in their sights as they look to finish on a flourish to hit the Championship running.
Jackett isn't predicting another promotion but is quietly confident of maintaining the stunning progress made in his first season.
"I've been very pleased with this season but we want it to be a base, a stepping stone – the start of something very good at the club," said the head coach.
"If possible, we want to write our own bit of history in the tradition of a great club.
"I'm looking forward to seeing our group play in the Championship.
"It's an exciting time to try to build on this season if we can.
"I'm certainly looking forward to it – I wouldn't be as arrogant to expect that (promotion) but it's a challenge for myself and it will be for the players.
"Off the back of this season, it's something we're looking forward to.
"We're in no way underestimating the task but we also go in there with confidence and a positive nature."
Jackett wants to use the momentum they have to forge another promotion push.
"If we don't go up next season, will we have a chance the season after? Of course we will.
"It depends how we manage but momentum is a big thing.
"There's a lot of positivity around the place and a good link between the supporters and the players and I want to use that to full effect next season and give it everything we've got.
"I know the Championship very well and there are thin dividing lines within it.
"If you get any edge and small percentage to swing things in our favour, I want to use that to try to be successful.
Jackett has a fully fit squad and will choose from the same 18 that won 3-1 at Leyton Orient on Monday.
Kevin Foley will undergo a shoulder operation on Monday and Zeli Ismail has returned to Burton Albion on loan after recovering from a hamstring injury.
