Kenny Jackett fumes at Wayne Hennessey's Wolves snub

Wayne Hennessey was today accused of being "unprofessional" after Wolves boss Kenny Jackett claimed he refused to play in last night's 1-0 defeat at Gillingham.

The news comes as Michael Jacobs seems set to become Wolves' second permanent signing of 2014 following James Henry, after talks with Derby.

Reports claimed Crystal Palace are on the brink of signing Hennessey, only for Jackett to claim they haven't received any approach for the 26-year-old keeper as Wolves' struggles extended to three wins in 12.

"Wayne's words were 'I don't want to play down at Gillingham', which I think is a poor decision and unprofessional," said Jackett.

"It was very disappointing and I thought it was the wrong decision, but it's how he feels.

"There have been no approaches or bids for Wayne. Common sense tells you there might be one coming, but nothing has happened and we're in the dark."

Jackett was full of praise for replacement keeper Aaron McCarey, who made his league debut for Wolves with Carl Ikeme out with a broken hand.

"I rate Aaron very highly as a goalkeeper and as a man," said Jackett. "His handling was excellent and his confidence level was terrific."

As for Jacobs, whose loan has now expired, Jackett said: "There were discussions yesterday about a permanent move and something positive will be announced shortly."

Jackett continues to be dissatisfied with his attack after trying Bakary Sako alongside Kevin Doyle last night.

"I didn't feel our forwards got the strikes in that our possession really warranted," he said. "As the game wore on, we looked bereft of ideas.

"But with the festive games out of the way, we're looking to improve."

Jackett dismissed speculation of a return for Coventry striker Leon Clarke.

And Roger Johnson's loan is set to be extended at Sheffield Wednesday.
