Kenny Jackett pep-talk fired Wolves into gear says Dave Edwards
Dave Edwards today revealed how a half-time roasting from Kenny Jackett snapped Wolves into gear at Shrewsbury after admitting they were "coasting".
Wolves were lacklustre in the first-half before improving slightly after the break and finally squeezing out a barely-deserved 1-0 win courtesy of Bakary Sako's 84th-minute penalty.
Victory was a return to winning ways after Tuesday's 1-0 defeat to Walsall but substitute Edwards admitted it took some harsh words from the head coach to turn things around amid a third successive below-par performance.
"It was a tight game and Shrewsbury were definitely the better team, particularly in the first half when the gaffer wasn't pleased with our performance," said the former Shrewsbury man.
"He said a few things to put things right at half-time and we played a lot better in the second half.
"Our first-half performance wasn't good enough – we were just coasting a little bit in terms of possession."
Edwards insisted the hotly-disputed penalty decision was right after Jon Taylor handballed Matt Doherty's header.
"It was a definite penalty and along with that it has to be a red card," he said.
"He (Taylor) was on the post and I think he came off it and raised his right arm and it was a good foot away from his body."
