Wolves' Dave Edwards prepared for big derby date at Greenhous Meadow
Dave Edwards today declared Wolves' arrival in Shrewsbury will be "huge".
The 27-year-old Molineux midfielder has lived in Shropshire's county town virtually all his life, grew up supporting Town and played more than 100 League games for them.
Tomorrow is the first time he has had a chance of facing them for Wolves as he seeks his comeback after a foot injury which has sidelined him since the opening-day goalless draw at Preston.
And with the 'sold-out' signs preparing to be dusted off for a record 9,500-capacity Greenhouse Meadow crowd, the Wales international admits it's one of the most eagerly-anticipated games Shrewsbury have had for years.
"Every time I see anyone around Shrewsbury they're all talking about this game," said Edwards. "They've been talking about September 21 since the fixtures came out!
"It's a huge, huge game for them and I'm sure they'll be right up for it in front of a full house. It's been 28 years since we played in the league and they'll be desperate to get one over on Wolves.
"Apart from Telford it's their closest derby.
"In my day there were games against Chester and Wrexham but to play against Wolves will be something else."
As a third-generation Town follower, Edwards' connections with Shrewsbury run deep.
"I supported Shrewsbury as a boy and followed them through my childhood, so it was great to get a chance to play for them," he said. "Everything I've achieved since is down to the grounding I had there.
"As a fan I always look out for Shrewsbury's results and any time I can get down the Meadow for a game then I do.
"I want a Wolves win tomorrow but then hope Shrewsbury beat all our rivals after that."
