Slawomir Peszko could yet have a future at Wolves

Slawomir Peszko was today told he could still have a part to play for Wolves – but manager Dean Saunders warned no-one is safe from the axe.

On-loan Cologne wide man Peszko was surprisingly axed from the 18 for Saturday's 2-2 draw against Leeds, despite being the only fit career right winger.

Left-footed central midfielder Jamie O'Hara started at wide right before a planned early switch saw striker Kevin Doyle drift out to the wing, then substitute Bjorn Sigurdarson appear in the position late on.

In addition, fit-again Dave Edwards and Stephen Hunt, who can also play there, were unused substitutes while Peszko kicked his heels in the stand.

Saunders preferred Doyle's extra size and physical strength against former Villa left-back Stephen Warnock.

But Saunders said Peszko, who has started one of the manager's five games and come on in three others, could still have a part to play.

"There is still a chance for Peszko," said the boss. "But I've got a lot of right wingers.

"It was the plan to start with Jamie O'Hara at wide right in the first six or seven minutes and then move Kevin Doyle to the right because I thought Kevin would beat Stephen Warnock in the air at the back post.

"Kevin had been left out at Leicester and hadn't played for Ireland and I felt he'd had a good week's training and a good week's sleep in Ireland having just had a new baby.

"He trained really well and I thought Saturday was the day he'd put in a performance and score.

"I had Hunt and Edwards on the bench who can both play on the right and both had trained really well all week, so I felt I couldn't leave those off the bench.

"Bjorn played there at Leicester as well so we had three players who could play there."

Saunders warned no one's place is safe as he tries to keep Wolves from a second successive relegation.

"It's Championship football we're facing and I knew what type of game we were facing on Saturday," he said.

"We've lost a lot of games this season and nobody is safe.

"Sylvan Ebanks-Blake has 11 goals so he's doing alright goal-wise and Bakary Sako eight, but I don't think anyone is safe enough to say they're doing well and we're where we should be."
