Wolves boss takes the blame for Peterborough
Embarrassed Stale Solbakken today reflected on Wolves' shocking collapse against Peterborough and said "blame me."
Solbakken was clearly distressed by the 3-0 defeat – their biggest under his reign – as his team capitulated to a side who were rock-bottom of the Championship at the start of play, and pledged to have a long look at himself.
The manager gave the players Christmas Day off and instead brought them back in on the morning of the game, but admitted he needed to look at himself over the squad's preparations.
He said: "It was as disappointing as we could have been. Rather than pointing fingers at the players I have to take the blame.
"I have to look at myself in the mirror and look at what I did wrong in the preparation or the tactics, because that shouldn't have happened at this stage.
"If one, two or three players have an off-day, they can be carried but I think I saw seven, eight or nine players who had a bad day for long periods.
"When so many players aren't up for it, I have that responsibility and I certainly take it. We looked weak through the whole line and mentally weak also.
"We were very poor for long periods and I didn't see that performance coming at all."
Solbakken's side went into the game looking to build on a run of three wins in four games and he was baffled by his side's surrender, which was the seventh time in eight home games they have failed to win.
He said: "It's difficult to explain and that's frustrating. The confidence should have been high, but we only performed for 20 minutes at the end of the first-half.
"When they got the second goal, we looked like we were dead. I didn't see the belief and we didn't look like we had the power to get back into it."
Wolves head into Saturday's visit of Mick McCarthy's Ipswich in 14th position, with just four points separating the teams. Solbakken is deeply concerned about the latest performance.
He said: ""We didn't look lively and that disturbed me because football is supposed to be fun and players should enjoy it.
"They didn't show the same body language as they have in the last few games when everyone wanted the ball."
