Apology by Dave Edwards for Wolves loss
Dave Edwards today apologised to Wolves fans for last night's 6-0 thrashing at Chelsea.
The Capital One Cup defeat was Wolves' worst for five years and Shrewsbury-born Edwards, who was captain on the night, said sorry for the result.
"We apologise for the result but I'm sure the fans saw a lot of effort and that we tried," said the Wales international.
"I hope they saw that, even though the result didn't go our way, we gave 100 per cent – that's what we always try to do."
Around 1,000 fans made the trip and Edwards was full of praise for the following.
"The fans paid their money and I thought they were brilliant," he said.
"We all went over to them at the end and they were all on their feet clapping us back.
"That's tremendous to see and Wolves' away fans are always fantastic – they always come away in big numbers."
Boss Stale Solbakken made 10 changes for the third-round tie but Edwards feels the manager was justified in his decision.
"The manager is entitled to use everyone in his squad otherwise there's no point having it," said the midfielder. "He put out a team he thought was capable of doing well."
Edwards admitted Wolves knew they were beaten by half time after trailing 3-0 in the first 17 minutes.
"When you go 3-0 down at Stamford Bridge, realistically you're not going to win," he said.
"It was very disappointing. The way we played in that opening spell and the goals we conceded were very poor on our behalf."
