Wolves deal close for Vadim Demidov

Wolves were today poised to complete their second signing in as many days with the capture of Vadim Demidov.

The club have agreed a fee of less than £1m with Real Sociedad for the defender, who is expected to follow striker Bjorn Bergmann Sigurdarson, whose £2.4m capture on a four-year deal from Lillestrom was announced today.

The 25-year-old centre-back was due at Compton for a medical this morning and, if all goes well, the Norway international is expected to sign a contract before joining his team-mates on their pre-season training camp in Ireland.

Demidov, who has 15 caps, is understood to have flown to England last night ready to complete the formalities of his move today after the influence of manager Stale Solbakken saw off interest from Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Latvia-born stopper, a ball-playing centre-back with leadership qualities, has come cheap as he only has a year left on his contract and the La Liga club are keen to sell him after he slipped to third choice.

Demidov's arrival will bring the number of central defenders at Wolves up to six.

Sigurdarson completed his move today following a successful medical. The 21-year-old was due to arrive in Ireland today after completing his tests at Compton yesterday.

He will be joined in County Kildare by Solbakken, who spent the weekend scouting in Denmark, where he watched the Brondby-Odense clash in the Superliga.
