Wolves today announced they have postponed plans to appoint a European-style sporting director.

But new manager Stale Solbakken still intends to make one backroom appointment, believed to be a No.2.

Solbakken's arrival was followed by talk of plans to bring in a director of football operations reporting to chief executive Jez Moxey.

But, despite saying there were two or three names being considered at Solbakken's unveiling in May, the club are now happy to continue with the existing backroom set-up.

That means Mick McCarthy's trusted lieutenants of chief scout Dave Bowman, European scout Ian Evans and assistant manager Terry Connor are set to remain at Molineux, at least until McCarthy finds a new job.

Solbakken's No.2 from his time in charge of Copenhagen and Cologne, Barnd Wiggen, is now unlikely to join him.

It understood the Norwegian has failed to persuade his long-term assistant to rejoin him after their struggles in Germany. "With the new manager we've got, we are content to run with our current football structure with him at the top of it," said Moxey.

"There are no plans to make any additional appointments, apart from one extra person Stale wishes to bring in.

"The idea of appointing a sporting or technical director is something we have discussed, but we have come to the conclusion that we will continue to run with our existing staff for the time being.

"We are not shelving the idea completely because we remain open-minded about how things might be in the long term. But we are happy with what we have at present."
