Captain Karl Henry today insisted Wolves will have a much better chance of keeping their stars if they stick with Terry Connor.

And the experienced midfielder said Connor will lead relegated Wolves back to the Premier League if he's given the chance.

Wolves face a battle to hang on to Steven Fletcher, Matt Jarvis, Kevin Doyle and others, who are attracting interest from top-flight clubs.

Relegation clauses written into the vast majority of the players' contracts cuts their wages by 50 per cent and compromises the club's ability to keep its best players.

Connor's fate will be known after his manager's contract expires on May 13 after the final game of the season at Wigan.

But midfielder Henry believes the stars will be more likely to stay if Connor remains at the helm.

"If the club want to keep hold of their better players, they would have more chance of doing it with 'TC' in charge," said Henry.

"TC' has been promoted twice with Wolves to the Premier League, so he knows what it takes to get out of the Championship.

"Everyone wants to win promotion to better themselves again by playing at the top level.

"Hopefully the club will do whatever it takes to keep hold of the better players. I think Wolves need to look after these players to keep them for the future. It might be a big ask but they need to do what it takes. There is a group of players who get on with each other and we all want to get back together."

Connor has taken just three points from 33 to hamper his chances of keeping the job but Henry feels the timing of his appointment gave the Yorkshireman little chance of arrest the slide.

"It's been too little, too late but TC hasn't had enough time to turn it around," he added.

"I know the fans haven't seen the positive changes in results, but he's built something good here and if he gets a chance, he will get us promoted.

He's been very dignified in everything he's done and he's only going to get better."

He's gone back to what we were and people can see we're better than we were. We have gone back to having two marauding wingers and two strikers trying to hold it up and score goals."
