Wayne Hennessey put aside his Wolves Premier League struggles to watch one of his horses notch an emotional victory – in a race dedicated to his grandfather.

The 24-year-old Welsh international goalkeeper was on hand at Dunstall Park last night to witness five-year-old Marksbury, trained by Shrewsbury's Mark Brisbourne, winning the Hugh Hennessey Memorial Fillies Handicap at Wolverhampton.

And, with the family connections, the success carried an extra personal touch for racing enthusiast Hennessey, who owns six horses.

"I was delighted for Wayne and to win the race named after his grandfather was the icing on the cake," said Brisbourne, who is based at Great Ness.

"The whole Hennessey clan were there and it was a really special night for them."

Marksbury, a 5-1 chance, ran out a three-quarter-length winner under the guidance of jockey Martin Lane.

And Brisbourne – who now has eight winners in 2012 – is eyeing further success for Marksbury with a return to Wolverhampton for a race in the next fortnight on the cards.
