Wolves today insisted the door is still open for beleaguered Terry Connor to appoint an assistant.

For the moment, Connor is happy working with existing Molineux staff, with former development coach Steve Weaver his No.2.

Chief executive Jez Moxey is aware that the speculation surrounding Connor's position will continue to grow as long as the team continues losing, with Wolves having taken one point out of 12 and conceded 14 goals under the new manager.

But the Molineux supremo wants the club to stabilise after one of the most turbulent periods in Wolves' recent history following the sacking of Mick McCarthy, and Roger Johnson turning up for training feeling the effects of alcohol.

"Terry is the manager and, as we said at the time, if he wants to bring someone in, he is pushing against an open door," said Moxey.

"We are not restricting him and equally, we are not forcing anyone on him.

"We are the targets at the moment because of recent results, but we're not going to fuel the speculation unnecessarily.

"We cannot afford to lose focus on what we're all trying to do because if we do, things will only get worse. We need everyone pulling in the right direction and that's what we're doing."
