Wolves today confirmed boss Terry Connor would not face the axe after Molineux was engulfed by a furious fans' backlash.

Chief executive Jez Moxey was back at his desk in meetings determined to draw a line under Saturday's ugly scenes which saw chairman Steve

Morgan close to tears as he confronted angry fans outside the ground.

Moxey, who missed the game to watch his daughter Jordan make her England Under-19s netball debut, refused to comment as to why Morgan spoke to fans.

However, he insisted that Connor would not be sacked – despite a report yesterday suggesting he was facing the axe just three games into his tenure.

Wolves went down 2-0 to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday to leave them a point from the safety line with 10 games left.

The scenes capped arguably the worst week in the club's recent history as:

  • A tearful chairman Morgan confronted around 40 fans an hour-and-a-half after the final whistle.

  • Wild reports surfaced of manager Connor facing the axe three games into his 13-match assignment.

  • Jamie O’Hara was confronted outside Molineux by angry fans as he held his toddler son.

Multi-millionaire Morgan listened to the fans, who claimed the players hadn't given their all, before responding in the exchange.

Fans blame Morgan for failing to appoint an experienced boss when he sacked Mick McCarthy and he repeated his claim that the job had only been offered to one man – Alan Curbishley.

During the game, supporters in the South Bank had unfurled a banner demanding 'Scouse mafia out' but Morgan asked them to stop criticising Scousers, saying that it had got nothing to do with the situation.

Morgan admitted: "We could all be perfect managers with the benefit of hindsight."

Manager Terry Connor said: "It hurts us all when the fans are discontented.

"We're all employees of the football club so if there is a protest going on, it's against all of us."
