Wolves opener still in Kevin Doyle's sights
Wolves striker Kevin Doyle was today still hoping to be fit for Saturday's Premier League opener as fears over his knee injury eased.
Wolves striker Kevin Doyle was today still hoping to be fit for Saturday's Premier League opener as fears over his knee injury eased.
Doyle returned to Compton yesterday after tweaking the same medial ligaments he damaged in March.
But it is understood the latest discomfort, sustained in training with Ireland, isn't anywhere near as bad as before.
Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni again hinted at a bigger problem after last night's 0-0 draw against Croatia in Dublin.
"I think Doyle will not be ready for Russia next month," said Trapatoni.
But the Italian has gained a reputation since taking the job for his indiscreet comments after previously suggesting Doyle would be better off at a "bigger club".
