The Potters eventually recorded a 3-0 victory at the Britannia Stadium last night thanks to goals from Kenwyne Jones, Ryan Shawcross and Jermaine Pennant.
Walters said: "That was very poor from them (the supporters) and it wound us up at half-time.
"Matthew has had a very good season and we came out in the second half thinking we would do it for him. Good luck to him — we are just hoping he will be okay."
Stoke are almost certain of securing their Barclays League status for a fourth successive season ahead of the final against Manchester City after moving to 42 points.
Walters is not relaxing just yet, though, with a trip to struggling Blackpool to come tomorrow.
Wolves face a tough trip to near rivals Birmingham on Sunday lunchtime.
