Luckless winger Michael Kightly is on course to hand Wolves a new year boost after his latest operation was hailed as a success.

Kightly has now undergone surgery on both knees to address inflammation of his patella tendons and manager Mick McCarthy said the former England Under-21 international is "buzzing".

The 24-year-old, who hasn't played since November 29 last year, is nine days into his six-week rehabilitation period and, hopes to return to full training in the next two months.

"Kightly is buzzing he's feeling really good," said the boss. "It will be the same timescale as his left one, which is six weeks and then we'll see from there.

"The knee he's had done is brilliant he's really buzzing about it and it wasn't half as bad as the other one."

Kightly won't be fully fit by the end of the January transfer window when clubs must submit their final 25-man squads for the rest of the season.
