Stability key to Josh Vela’s star turn at Shrewsbury
Josh Vela believes Shrewsbury Town are offering him some career stability after enjoying some fine form this season.
The 27-year-old spent eight seasons with Bolton, after coming through their academy, before moving on to a largely unsuccessful year at Scottish side Hibernian.
His Shrewsbury career began slowly with an injury and then the start of the coronavirus pandemic, but now the midfielder is enjoying some of his best football and insists the club has helped him find more stability.
“I was at Bolton a long time and had stability there and I played a lot of games for them,” Vela said. “I went up to Scotland and it didn’t work out for various reasons.
“Now I’ve played a lot of games this season and I feel like I’m getting into my stride and getting some stability in my performances.
“When you’re playing games regularly it’s important to get that form and I feel like I have that at the minute.
“The games are coming thick and fast so I need to keep to that form. It’s been good.
“I came to the club and I was injured and then ending up only playing four games with the pandemic.
“Now I’ve had a full season and I feel I’m really starting to get into it and I can carry that form on.
“I feel like I’m in decent form and when the team is winning that breeds confidence as well.
“Hopefully I can keep that going.”
Meanwhile, coach David Longwell believes Vela’s work off the field has helped him develop this year.
He added: “Every day he does extra work. He does extra in the gym and out on the pitch.
“He has that mindset about wanting to get better. He’s in really good condition with his fitness.”
