Shilow Tracey could make his long-awaited Shrewsbury Town debut against Gillingham on Saturday after finally linking up with his new team-mates this week.

The 22-year-old winger signed on loan from Tottenham just under a fortnight ago but had not trained with his new side until this week and was unavailable for matches.

But the pacy wideman, who spent a spell on loan at League Two Macclesfield last term, could make his bow for Sam Ricketts' side against the Gills at Montgomery Waters Meadow this weekend.

Ricketts has praised Tracey's attitude as a player determined to succeed and make something of his loan in Shropshire.

"Shilow is now in training with us. We saw him very briefly early on in the week and now we'll see him in training in the next couple of days," said the Town boss.

"We'll get a good view of him and he'll get a good understanding of us and what we want out of him going forward.

"It's good to have him in. He's a very nice lad, quiet but young and hungry and wants to do well.

"Our view on Shilow is that I more took him for his attitude. Obviously he has athletic ability as well, he had a few games at Macclesfield towards the end of last season.

"The big one is can we improve him and mould him and help him as a player? Obviously that helps us down the line.

"He's not experienced but we're aiming to get use out of him while he's with us."

Tracey began his career at non-league Ebbsfleet, where he was originally a central midfield player, before being picked up by Spurs in January 2016 aged 17.

He is likely to provide competition on the right of Town's front three, providing Ricketts with an alternate option to striker Jason Cummings.

A League One start could be some way away from the new recruit, who is more likely to make his full Shrewsbury debut against fourth tier Bolton in next Tuesday's EFL Trophy group tie.
