Sam Ricketts has thrown down the gauntlet to his players to prove their Stoke heroics were not a one-off.

The Shrewsbury Town chief insists he will ‘demand’ the same commitment his side showed in the second half at the Bet365 Stadium, where they came from behind to win 3-2.

Ricketts wants his men to show that Stoke is the start of their progression – and not a pinnacle.

“I’m delighted the fans are up on a high,” said Ricketts, whose side go to Blackpool tomorrow. “My players? No. Because I want to demand it from them now – it can’t be seen as a one-off.

“It has to maintain. It has to be the start of something. That’s not the pinnacle, that’s the start of what we’re trying to do.”

The Town chief, who has overseen one league win from seven games, continued: “Confidence plays the biggest part in any walk of life. Whatever you do – if you’re confident, you do to the best of your ability.

“Whether that be a bricklayer, whoever. If you’re confident then you’re going to do it better than if you’re doubting yourself.”
