Askey’s Salop recorded just their second League One win in 12 attempts with a 1-0 victory over 10-man Accrington Stanley thanks to Alex Gilliead’s second half goal.

The Town chief is determined to do well for everybody involved at Montgomery Waters Meadow.

His side climbed from 20th to 16th and, the boss is aware, with a run of good results can look to their desired position of into League One’s top half. Askey said: “You can (be looking at top half). That’s what we’re looking to do.

“It’ll be great if we can. We’ve got a lot of good people at Shrewsbury, they all work hard. Tea ladies to ticket people, everybody here.

“It’s terrific club and we just all want to do well.”

The boss continued: “It’s for everybody around the club, after having the season Shrewsbury had last season.

“That’s why I think supporters have been so good, the expectations could have been ridiculous. But they haven’t, I think they realise they’ve got a completely new team and it takes time.”

Town have scored just once from 39 shots in their last two games, against Walsall and Accrington. Eleven of those shots have been on target.

Many have been from distance, including a host that flew wide in the first half against Stanley.

Askey said: “We still need to take chances better. We had too many shots from outside the box not hit the target when people are under no pressure.

“Little things that bounce about that we’re not putting in the back of the net. It’s just making the right decision at the right time.
