Boss John Askey has vowed he will urge his Shrewsbury team to go for the jugular against in-form Accrington Stanley tomorrow.

Goal-shy Salop are the joint-third lowest scorers in League One but have one of the tightest defences and are outside the drop zone on goal difference.

Visitors Stanley, riding high in fifth, are unbeaten in 10 games.

Askey shuffled his attacking line-up at Walsall in midweek as he opted for a 4-2-3-1, with Shaun Whalley behind striker Aaron Amadi-Holloway and top scorer Lee Angol on the left, in an attempt to make his side more potent.

The boss admits a lack of goals are a concern but will send Town out to ‘attack’ Stanley at Montgomery Waters Meadow and ‘force’ a win.

“You have to look at things, if we’re not scoring then you have to look at ways of getting goals,” said Askey, who is looking for just a second league win in a dozen attempts.

“It’s obviously what I’ve tried to do. I’m sure it’s what the supporters want, they don’t want us sitting back and hoping we get a win.

“We’ve got to go and attack games and try to force a win.”

Town tried to play on the front foot in the entertaining goalless draw at Walsall and, while the hosts shaded the chances, Askey’s men had their moments in front of goal. I think it’s the best way to go about it. If we went to Walsall and lost at least we’ve tried to win the game,” the boss added.

“I hope supporters, who turned up in their numbers and were fantastic, went home happy. I’m sure they’d have been happier with three but they saw a good game.”

Askey continued: “The last thing I want to do is make excuses, we have got to start winning games.

“I’ve got to start getting that through to the players, but it is a fine line.

“At the moment it’s not happening but I’m sure if we carry on as we’re doing then the points will come

.”
