Town and Walsall played out an entertaining 0-0 at the Banks's Stadium, where Askey's men recorded a sixth League One draw in 11 games, the joint-highest in the division.

It leaves them stuck on one win, 20th in the table and only outside the drop zone on goal difference.

The end-to-end derby, watched by 800 travelling Salopians, was full of chances with Town's 15 shots shading Walsall's 14, although the hosts had eight on target to Town's four on a busy night for keeper Joel Coleman.

Askey said: "Everybody has come away asking themselves how it ended 0-0.

"It was very open game, too open from my point of view, but I was pleased with the amount of chances created.

"Why they're not going in I don't know. At the moment they're just not going in.

"I tried to start with as many forward-thinking players on the pitch as possible but we still struggled to finish it off and get a goal.

"It's still a good point at Walsall, they're a strong outfit and have been doing well.

"But we came hoping to get the three points."

Askey explained how he attempted to select a positive side against the Saddlers, who have started the season well.

Top scorer Lee Angol played out on the left with Shaun Whalley moving central to a 'No.10' position and Alex Gilliead on the right, all behind Aaron Amadi-Holloway.

But despite numerous efforts, both goals led a charmed life. But Askey remains confident that the goals will flow for his team on the basis of opportunities fashioned.

"I was happy that we created chances," the Town boss added. "Whoever we've played we've more than matched and we did again tonight."

"Shaun's was the best chance. Middle of the goal but he blazed it over, Ollie Norburn had a couple, Lee Angol, but there was that many I can't remember every one.

"I'd be more concerned if we weren't creating chances. We created a lot of chances and we should've converted more.

"if ever they do start going in then we could win four or five. I'd settled for one to two."
