Askey said chants of ‘you don’t know what you’re doing’ and boos at the weekend did not surprise him.

Sections of the support made their voices heard at Montgomery Waters Meadow after Askey made late subs in the 0-0 draw with Blackpool.

He said: “Nothing surprises me in football. We’re in a society where everything’s now. Everything’s got to be happening now.

“That’s reflected in football. That’s how football is now.

“You just have to accept it. I think in the majority of the game the supporters got behind the players.

“There were one or two that weren’t happy with my decisions but on the whole everyone got behind the players.

“I don’t think it helps the players but that’s the way it is. It is opinions. You can make terrible decisions when you’re winning and nobody says anything.

“Everybody makes good decisions and bad decisions, it’s a fine line.”

Askey continued by adding that decisions can be difficult to make without disrupting the flow when a team is on top in games.

He added: “You can sit there in the stand and say ‘you should’ve done this or that’. Unless you’re on the bench doing it then you never know if it’s right or not.

“At the time we were playing well. Do you make a decision or do you not?”
