Aaron Amadi-Holloway determined to be a Shrewsbury Town regular
New hitman Aaron Amadi-Holloway is ready to play a starring role for Shrewsbury Town after today joining from Oldham.
The 25-year-old penned a two-year Montgomery Waters Meadow deal and insists that the switch is a crucial move in his career after not getting sufficient game time at previous clubs.
The powerful striker only started 11 games for the Latics last season and was instead used regularly from the bench. But he is determined to force his way into John Askey's first team at Shrewsbury and play a key role for his new club.
Amadi-Holloway explained he felt he matched the club's ambition of progressing to the next level.
The Welshman said: "It's important personally and on the football pitch.
"Last year wasn't so good with us getting relegated with Oldham but now's a new challenge and I know the club want to go higher, hopefully I can help that.
"100 per cent it's to be starting in League One. Last year was a difficult season for me and the team.
"We had a couple of strikers doing really well, I couldn't complain too much, people like (Eoin) Doyle and Davo (Craig Davies) scoring goals so it's hard to argue that they were playing.
"I got on with it and came off the bench and did my all for the team but this season I definitely need to start playing games and getting myself in the starting eleven."
Amadi-Holloway acknowledges he must improve his goal ratio having only netted four times last season. The forward, who laid on seven assists for relegated Oldham last term, says another of his strengths is bringing team-mates into play.
"There are so many things I need to develop on and improve on. I still think the main way I'm going to do that is playing games, which is why I came here," added the former Bristol City youngster.
"I'm your typical number nine. A big target man that likes to bring people into play, hold up. I'm not slow!
"I like to think I'm powerful, yes. And there's a few powerful people here, I've played against a few of them. A lot of athletes. Hopefully I'll fit in. I can see big battles in training already!"
He continued: "Goals is the main thing I need to improve on. Confidence is the biggest thing for a striker and I think getting a move like this will hopefully improve the confidence for more goals."
