Midfield general Ogogo, who wore the captain’s armband last season, has opted to end his three-year Shrewsbury stint and move to the newly-promoted League One Sky Blues.

The 28-year-old made 124 Town appearances in total, scoring five times, since joining from Dagenham in 2015.

His final season at Montgomery Waters Meadow was ended prematurely when surgery was required on a medial knee ligament injury sustained in training in April while serving a four-match ban.

Ogogo missed both of Town’s defeats at Wembley. He was first offered new terms at the Meadow by former boss Paul Hurst late last year.

And current boss John Askey says the club did everything they could to try to keep Ogogo.

“We’re disappointed. We tried our best to keep him because he obviously had a good season last season,” said Askey. “But he’s decided to move on and there’s nothing more we could do as a football club.

“I asked the club to do what they could, which they did. Sometimes you just can’t compete with the bigger teams.”

The boss will now step up his efforts to bring a new central midfielder to the Meadow.

“The main job now is to replace him,” he added. “We’ve just got to go out now and get somebody who can do the job that he did.

“It’s a team game. There’s no player that’s irreplaceable no matter what player, unless it’s Ronaldo!

“Obviously goalkeeper and central midfield are the areas we’re concentrating on at the moment. Hopefully we’ll bring players in to replace those who’ve gone.

“To be honest the sides I’ve had previously, I like the midfield to rotate, when you defend then you defend and when attack you attack.

“I don’t want someone who just completely sits. I like people who can play in midfield and can defend when needed. I’ve got my eye on quite a few midfielders.

“Want me might lose on a strength in Abs we might gain elsewhere.”
