Paul Hurst is not concerned by ‘quirk’ in Shrewsbury form
Shrewsbury chief Paul Hurst expects his side’s current contrasting home and away form to prove a mere blip.
Hurst’s second-placed side are without a league win at Montgomery Waters Meadow for four games but have won four away games on the bounce.
The boss expects, over a 46-game league season, odd sequences and runs and believes there is little more to this than a ‘quirk’.
Town have done battle with three of League One’s form sides in recent weeks, going down to Plymouth and Rotherham before Gillingham stole a late point.
“Overall I think maybe it is a bit of a quirk,” said the boss. “The three teams that have visited us most recently in the league have been on very good runs. Against Gillingham I genuinely thought we were pretty comfortable, especially first half.
“When Plymouth and Rotherham turned up we’ve had spells, but you could see they were a team bang in form doing well.
“I didn’t get that sense from Gillingham, although they improved second half. I thought we would see out the game. Ultimately you have to be pretty good home and away if you’re going to be where we are in the league.
“It’s nice to not be over-reliant on one thing or another. We know we’re capable of going to places and putting on good performances.
“At home you’d like to think we’re always going to feel comfortable.”
