Stefan Payne: I don't care who scores the goals for Shrewsbury Town

Shrewsbury goal sensation Stefan Payne doesn't mind who is finding the net for Town as long as they keep their unbeaten run going.

The striker netted his sixth going since signing from Barnsley this summer in Town's superb 2-0 victory over Scunthorpe - keeping them four points clear at the top of League One and 11 games unbeaten.

Payne's minutes-per-goal ratio is up there with the best strikers in the country due to a couple of injury withdrawals and a few cameos from the bench.

The 26-year-old believes he could have an even more prolific ratio.

But whether up front on his own or used in wide areas like at Doncaster on Tuesday and late on against Scunthorpe, Payne is happy so long as Paul Hurst's side are scoring.

"Personally I'm a bit disappointed that I could've had more than I've got but as long as we're winning I don't care," said the scorer.

"I'm going to get plenty of chances here, definitely. It's just my job to try and finish them which, at the minute, I'm doing it and we're winning.

"It was very hard work out there. It was good to get the goal to get us in front and I think we needed the second, it came at a good time and we all dug in to work very hard.

"I didn't know anything about it. Bolts (James Bolton) headed it and everyone was saying it was his but Junior (Brown) was there and said it was definitely my goal. I followed it up and made sure it went in the net."

Payne reserved praise for his fellow scorer, Norwich loanee Carlton Morris, who arrived from the bench to net Town's second with three minutes from time.

Ex-Dover man Payne hailed Morris' potential as well as he impact against the Iron.

He added: "I said in the changing rooms that Carlton did very well when he came on, he changed the game.

"We were getting a bit down and going direct and I was blowing at the top to be honest!

"He's a great player. He has a massive load of potential and he's definitely going to play at a higher level, I feel."
