Paul Hurst still not satisfied despite Shrewsbury win
Paul Hurst was not entirely satisfied as his side ran out 2-1 winners at Gillingham to extend their unbeaten League One start to five games.
Carlton Morris and Alex Rodman scored first-half goals to give Town a comfortable lead after the hosts had started the brighter at MEMS Priestfield.
Gills halved the deficit with 14 minutes remaining but failed to carve out any more convincing opportunities to really trouble Town's lead.
Shrewsbury sit second in League One after five games, behind leaders Peterborough on goal difference.
But Hurst, like on Tuesday at Coventry in the Checkatrade Trophy, was unconvinced by his side's performance.
"The result is very pleasing but the performance not so," Hurst admitted after the game.
"We've won our last two games without me being happy with how we've played.
"I'm not completely happy sat on the coach home on the long journey, there'll be a lot to think about, but ultimately it's still nice to have the three points.
"I was concerned, even in the first-half. I said to them at half-time, 2-0 up again, same as Coventry in midweek, and I didn't feel comfortable.
"Our back four started the game as though they'd never played together.
"But when we did play our game as I know we can, we scored a couple of good goals.
"Craig (MacGillivray) had too much to do first-half. Second-half, territory-wise we were pushed back, but I didn't feel he had too many saves to make.
"They certainly pushed up back and hit long balls to (Tom) Eaves and the centre-backs with the long throws."
Despite the long trip to Kent which Town made on Friday night, Hurst made no excuse for his side's - as he felt - lacking in performance.
Town's two goals came within seven minutes of each other after the half hour point at a muggy Priestfield - where the home faithful were low on confidence after no win since Good Friday.
The Town boss added: "In a way it was pleasing to soak it up but I want us to be better. You do get the games where, with the best will in the world, you won't play well every week.
"In the league we'd put four back-to-back performances together. Today wasn't the performance I wanted.
"You can talk about things like the long trip down, the pitch being long and it's a warm day - but the last two are the same for Gillingham.
"I don't want to use that or the players to. It's about having that desire and they looked like having a bit more spring in their step in fairness.
"Albeit I thought a lot of it was up to a point without cutting us open."
