Paul Hurst relishing attacking options at Shrewsbury Town

Shrewsbury boss Paul Hurst is relishing the prospect of headaches in attack as his forwards fight for a spot in Saturday's clash with Bury.

Town's chief is content with the competition in forward areas after Stefan Payne became his fourth loan signing in attack this month.

The Shakers – who sit 21st – visit Greenhous Meadow this Saturday to take on Hurst's 19th-placed Salop, who are four unbeaten and have many different options available to them tomorrow.

"I've given myself some headaches, that's clear," Hurst told shrewsweb. "But what I do truly believe in is with the options we do have, we shouldn't be short of attacking threat. I think it can only bode well for us.

"Defensively, we've done well since I've come here and if we can continue that with these players we've got in attacking positions, it can only bode well for us."

Hurst has opted to go with loan signings Freddie Ladapo and Tyler Roberts in the last two matches, while Louis Dodds and Stephen Humphrys both made an impact from the bench at Gillingham.

Salop are also hoping striker AJ Leitch-Smith isn't too far from a return following knee ligament damage that has kept him out since November, while Payne could be in line for his debut after joining on loan from Barnsley yesterday.

"We've got to give ourselves every chance," added Hurst. "Who's to say two of those don't get injured in training or next Saturday.

"It's going to be difficult and a couple of the lads are going to be unhappy, but ultimately it's about giving this club the best chance of getting results and that's why I've done it.

"We could have perhaps got by, but you never know, and this was too good an opportunity to turn down.

"Stef certainly wasn't short of options available to him in our league so I'm pleased we've beaten off competition from our division."

The Salop chief has revealed he has no favourites in team selection and everybody is in contention for what he feels is a massive game against Bury on Saturday.

"We know it's a big game but one we can look forward to with some optimism," said Hurst. "The result won't be a season-defining one but it would be nice if we could keep this run going. After a difficult period, Bury have picked up themselves and they have a striker bang in form, who we will need to be very wary of."
