Paul Hurst issues Shrewsbury challenge to Tyler Roberts

Paul Hurst has challenged new loanee forward Tyler Roberts to earn his matchday minutes as a Shrewsbury Town player.

Roberts, who signed on loan for the season from West Bromwich Albion, featured as a late substitute in all of his 14 League One cameos with previous loan club Oxford United.

And Hurst believes Roberts, who recently turned 18, is physically ready for the challenge with Town.

"The challenge for him here is to get more minutes, that's what we've spoken about and hopefully that'll be the case," said Hurst.

"The physical side, although he's just turned 18, doesn't faze him or concern myself.

"He can play wide, but realistically we brought him in as a striker.

"Credit to him for wanting to come and get games again. He could've easily gone back to West Brom and seen the season out in the under-23 squad. Hopefully that gives a little insight into the lad's attitude.

"Tyler will be straight into it, whether that's starting or coming off the bench. He's coming in to play and I think he'll get that opportunity.

"Hopefully we can help him learn his game and get the experience to develop his career.

Salop had academy graduates Ethan Jones and Kaiman Anderson on the bench against Bradford City last weekend, with striking options light.
