Ian Black happy with Shrewsbury Town penalty duties
Shrewsbury Town penalty hero Ian Black had no qualms about stepping up to the plate despite missing from 12 yards already this season.
The Scottish midfielder stepped up to double Paul Hurst's side's lead with 17 minutes to go as the hosts sealed an impressive three points against Bristol Rovers.
The handball decision against Tom Lockyer meant that the 31-year-old former Rangers man had the chance to banish memories from earlier in the campaign in the absence of regular penalty taker Ivan Toney.
Black missed from the penalty spot in the 1-1 draw against Peterborough United at Greenhous Meadow – at the same end – in late September. It was a fixture he also netted his second goal of the season in.
And on his third of the campaign, Black said: "I'm very confident in my ability and I won't ever shy away from anything.
"I asked Louis Dodds it he wanted to take it because he's been scoring recently but the big man didn't fancy it so I thought I'll take it and I thought it was a good finish.
"It was never in doubt – always in the back of the net!"
"I always said to the boys in the past that if I get another one I would be more than happy to take it."
Bristol Rovers rallied after half-time and enjoyed more of the possession but did little to hurt Hurst's resolute Salop, who stood firm in defence for a third consecutive League One clean sheet.
Black added: "You always need that second goal to give you safety net but we held our own.
"We knew they were going to come out, we heard the screaming match at half-time in their dressing room. We focused on our jobs, the gaffer had us organised with a good shape and we deserved it."
