Paul Hurst: Everyone must chip in with goals at Shrewsbury
Paul Hurst believes players must take collective responsibility for Shrewsbury's current failings in front of goal – after confirming striker AJ Leitch-Smith will miss Town's game at Millwall.
The 26-year-old sat out last weekend's 0-0 draw with Fleetwood with a knee injury and has failed to recover in time for tomorrow's trip.
Town, the second-lowest scorers in League One, have failed to find the net in their last three games but Hurst believes the blame does not solely lie with the team's beleaguered strikeforce.
"It's very easy to criticise the strikers, we need to have goals from all over the pitch," he said.
"It's the same way a clean sheet is not only the work of the goalkeeper and defenders. It is a team effort. It doesn't matter who scores. It's great if you can have a striker who is going to score you 20 goals and a strike partner who will contribute. It's not always the case."
The boss continued: "Before I came in the problem was about conceding too many – that has improved.
"But just as back then it couldn't be a case of the strikers blaming the defenders, now it can't be the defenders blaming the strikers and the midfield being blamed by both. It's a team effort."
Hurst feels his team have been unfortunate in recent games.
But he added: "What I don't want to be a manager who sits there and says we don't have any luck. We have to try and change that ourselves through hard work."
