Paul Hurst: Shrewsbury Town did enough to get through in FA Cup clash
Paul Hurst believes his Shrewsbury Town side did more than enough to be guaranteed an FA Cup third round spot but instead must face a replay at Fleetwood.
The two sides will do battle for the third time in under a month on December 13 at Highbury Stadium after a goalless draw at Greenhous Meadow.
Then comes an astonishing fourth meeting in the league on January 2, but for now Town chief Hurst was pleased with more progress besides his team not quite finding the finishing touch.
Salop were denied by the woodwork three times in the second period against Uwe Rosler's Cod Army - who had beaten Shrewsbury so convincingly 3-0 just 11 days prior.
"I certainly think we should be through, when you hit the woodwork three times, particularly Doddsy's effort that hit the inside of the post and rolls across the line and somehow doesn't go in. It's tough to take.
"But at least we're still in the hat. Both teams will await the draw and see if there's something to come out there.
"I can find positives, definitely, but ultimately we want to win games.
"We were the better side. In the second-half with those efforts, we played on the front foot more. We caused Fleetwood problems."
Fleetwood are joint-fourth top scorers in League One and after displaying that ruthlessness against Town a fortnight ago, were blunted on a freezing after in Shropshire.
And Hurst was confident that the club still have an agenda to correct after the 3-0 Lancashire defeat and believes the replay will act as another opportunity.
"The replay wasn't the first thing I was particularly looking forward to, but on the other hand, why not?" Hurst added.
"There's a draw to come and no matter who you get, whether that's a game against maybe one of the lower teams, then there's a real possibility it could very well be fourth round.
"We look forward to it and I think Uwe used the word revenge - I thought that was a little strong - we're now going back to the ground where the defeat happened, so even more of a chance to put things right."
