Shrewsbury Town's next manager highly unlikely to be Kenny Jackett
Shrewsbury Town have drawn up a 10-man shortlist for their vacant hotseat – but Kenny Jackett is highly unlikely to be on it.
Salop chief executive Brian Caldwell admitted that unemployed Championship managers are likely to hold out for a second-tier job rather than move to Greenhous Meadow. Of the possibles, only ex-Wolves chief Jackett, Steve Cotterill and Tony Mowbray were linked – with the last two going on the record to rule themselves out.
"I know for a fact that some of the Championship managers out of work just now, they're not necessarily going to come to Shrewsbury," he said.
"These guys are probably waiting for another gig in the Championship.
"If they come to Shrewsbury and it doesn't go well, then the chances are that they're never going to work in the Championship again. If it does go well, then there's still no guarantee they'll get picked up.
"We're looking for somebody who really wants the job and shows the keenness and passion that we're all looking for and that the supporters are looking for – somebody who wants to take the club forward."
