My injuries are behind me, says Shrewsbury Town's Jim O'Brien

Shrewsbury Town vice-captain Jim O'Brien is confident his injury struggles are behind him.

The stylish attacker has been in and out of Micky Mellon's line-up so far this term after struggling to get over groin surgery earlier in the year.

But the 28-year-old boosted Salop ranks last weekend when he returned to the side and adopted the armband for the visit of high-flying Scunthorpe.

O'Brien was a constant feature in the first couple of games this season, but a brief 20 minutes at Sunderland were his last taste of action before a spell in the treatment room.

"It took me a couple of games to recover after getting back into the team," admitted the former Barnsley and Coventry flier.

"I only started to feel human again later in the week, it's good to get back in the team and hopefully I can stay in there. I was sort of expecting the injury really, I was half expecting to get little niggles along the way.

"I was expecting to get other things because when one thing is not right and healing then other things compensate for that, you get tightness and soreness when you wouldn't get it before. But that was expected.

"Hopefully I've turned a corner now. Maybe I'm still a game or two behind the others, perhaps I'm getting tired before others in the games but we'll take it game by game. I'm not too worried about it."
