Micky Mellon: We're better than last term

Micky Mellon is adamant that he sees a big improvement in his Shrewsbury Town squad from last season.

Salop sit 18th in the League One table after two wins from seven outings but the Town boss is hugely encouraged from most displays so far this term.

Mellon said: "I said in the summer I was going to improve the team and I absolutely know, because I'm honest with myself and my own biggest critic, that I've brought a group of players here that have improved the level that this team is playing at.

"I can't say that I'm pleased because I'll get hammered for that, we're not winning every week, but what I will say is that I'm seeing the improvements.

"I'm absolutely sure that we can get this going, cut out the moments and start punishing them for them making their errors.

"It is hugely frustrating that we've gone toe-to-toe with these teams but not got the points return.

"I've got to look at the improvement and try and find that – if it's not there then I'm in trouble because I need to improve the team."
