Shrewsbury Town expected to make two signings in the next 24 hours

Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon is expecting to complete the signing of two forwards inside the next 24 hours.

The Salop chief wants to add more firepower to a frontline that includes AJ Leitch-Smith, Andy Mangan, Ivan Toney, Louis Dodds and Ethan Jones.

Toney, 20, arrived earlier this week from Newcastle United on a loan deal until Christmas, while 18-year-old Jones is a graduate of the club's academy.

And Mellon is satisfied that two further attackers will be welcomed to the Greenhous Meadow tomorrow, on the eve of Salop's trip to face Coventry City in League One on Saturday.

The boss said : "Yes I think that they might be done, but again not yet signed and sealed.

"But I think we've got to a stage now where 'all of our tails are wagging', so everybody's all happy and we might have some news about that in the next 24 hours but as of the minute nothing has been signed.

"These things are sometimes so frustrating, to the outside world it can be so simple - and it is so simple - you just get it done and get it signed.

"But there's an awful lot of 'to-ing and fro-ing' to be done.

"This morning I believe - to coin the phrase - everybody's tails are wagging so we'll get things done tomorrow."

It may prove encouraging news for Mellon to add fresh faces before the trip to the Ricoh Arena, with the fitness of Leitch-Smith, Dodds and Shaun Whalley will be assessed at training tomorrow.

Leitch-Smith and Dodds both scored their first competitive goals during Tuesday night's memorable cup success over Huddersfield Town, but all three were forced off as substitutes with knocks against the Championship side.
