Micky Mellon hails Shrewsbury cup win as one of best
Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon hailed the victory over Huddersfield Town as one of the best results during his time at the club.
Salop's 2-1 success in the EFL Cup first round at Greenhous Meadow brought yet more domestic cup success for Mellon at Town, with famous ties against Chelsea and Manchester United still fresh in the memory.
But Mellon reckons last night's 2-1 triumph over an impressive Championship outfit in Huddersfield may top the lot in terms of his scalps as Town chief.
A late goal from Louis Dodds – his first for the club – booked a second-round spot after AJ Leitch-Smith's strike 20 seconds into the tie had been cancelled out.
"It's absolutely all about the players," said Mellon.
"Probably in the first half we allowed them too much of the ball and we needed to believe in ourselves to influence the game more and get closer to people and pass it better when we got it.
"They did that in the second half and showed all of the qualities you need to beat an outstanding team.
"Make no mistake about it they're an outstanding side.
"They will take some beating in that Championship and it's right up there with the results we've had since I've been here at Shrewsbury.
"It was a quality performance and the lads take unbelievable credit for it."
