Shrewsbury Town close to signing a striker
Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon revealed the club have 'reached a verbal agreement' to bring in another striker.
The Greenhous Meadow chief was speaking after his side fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat at home on the opening day of the League One season.
He has just two fit senior strikers, since the cancellation of Tyrone Barnett's contract.
It's no secret that Mellon wants to add more firepower to his squad in the shape of a striker to make an impact in League One.
With more space in the budget in the wake of Barnett's exit, the Town boss hinted that a move was close with player and club agreeing terms.
He said: "Yes and no (close to adding reinforcements). Yes because verbally we might have done something but no, because it's not across the line yet.
"After how many times in my experience - they're not done until they're over the line.
"We've got things that we want to get done and we have been working hard and we'll continue to work hard to get something done to get more impact players in the group.
"There's always a chance (before Huddersfield) but we've just got a nod at the moment, we've verbally agreed but nothing is done until it's done. But certainly from our side we've done everything we can to make it happen.
"We'll go over it (the specifics) when it's done."
Mellon explained his disappointment, as Town were dealt a late blow, and believed his side deserved something more from the tight affair.
Daniel Powell's strike 17 minutes from time cost Salop on a gloriously sunny opening day at the Meadow.
Not since a 3-1 win against Bradford on the opening day of the 2010-11 campaign have Town enjoyed an opening day win.
Mellon added: "Yes absolutely (hard on team's endeavors), we did everything that we felt we needed to do to get something out of the game.
"I felt probably pretty earlier that it's tight and it might be an error that decides who's going to win it and it just never went our way, on that side of it.
"In terms of the set-up of the group and the determination to get the press right and the counter-attacking right, we'd probably like to keep the ball a bit better, at times.
"It's the first game of the season. Overall, we thoroughly deserved something from the game."
