Tyrone Barnett gone from Shrewsbury Town

Shrewsbury Town forward Tyrone Barnett has had his contract at the Greenhous Meadow cancelled by mutual consent.

The hitman signed for Town in January of 2015, completing a two-and-a-half year deal, for a £100,000 fee from Peterborough.

Barnett, 30, scored eight goals in 39 appearances as he helped Salop achieve promotion from League Two.

But after falling out of favour with boss Micky Mellon last winter, Barnett headed out to Southend United on loan in January, where he scored five goals for Phil Brown's side.

Brown was interested in bringing the frontman to Roots Hall on a permanent deal but any move seemed to have been halted.

Mellon had previously told the Shropshire Star that any future deals this summer would remain courtesy of a 'one in, one out' scenario.

Having now left the Meadow, the Town boss is likely to have some budget freed up to approach another forward to provide support to AJ Leitch-Smith, Andy Mangan and Ethan Jones.

Barnett, who played non-league football in the West Midlands before making it as a pro, can also count Crawley and Macclesfield among his former clubs.

Town added in a statement: "We would like to thank Ty for his hard work and dedication during his time at the club and wish him well for the future"
