Micky Mellon happy with Shrewsbury's win
Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon was delighted with his side's professional performances in the 4-0 victory over non-league Solihull Moors.
The National League outfit were blown away in a phenomenal first-half, were Town scored four times - including first Salop strikes for AJ Leitch-Smith, Louis Dodds and Antoni Sarcevic.
The boss commended his players for respecting the opposition and playing to their level, saying: "The lads take great credit, it was a terrific performance.
"It was a very very professional performance - we worked very hard with and without the ball.
"We tried to get it back quickly, we've moved the fitness levels ahead and we'll move into next week for a tough training week.
"It's always great to get goals and win games, I said that after we lost the game against Cardiff, but it's important to realise where we are at in terms of fitness and preparation.
"It's all a part of the progress and working towards that first game of the season. Today worked towards how I hoped it would go.
"Obviously, I thought Solihull tried to play the right way and tried to represent their manager and football club properly so credit to them, too."
Mellon made all 11 changes on the hour mark as Town struggled to match the tempo from the first period on a humid afternoon in Birmingham.
He said: "Of course (changes make it tough) and it was hot and the pitch is a bit sticky, you've got to adapt to it I know.
"But it doesn't make for fantastic, slick football all of the time. We came to move forward with fitness and obviously to get another game together.
"We've managed to score some great goals and hopefully got everybody through without any injuries and it'll be a pleasing afternoon's work for us."
