Championship club Cardiff City scored twice in each half as they ran out 4-0 winners in a Greenhous Meadow friendly against new-look Shrewsbury Town.





Shrewsbury boss Micky Mellon included six of his summer signings in his starting XI.
Defenders Joe Riley, Olly Lancashire and Ryan McGivern joined by midfielders Gary Deegan and Louis Dodds plus striker AJ Leitch-Smith were all included.
Fellow newcomers Antoni Sarcevic and Jim O'Brien were introduced at half time, but experienced central defender Adam El-Abd, Town's latest recruit, was not involved.
Shaun Whalley and Andy Mangan both tested Cardiff goalkeeper David Marshall in the early stages before the Bluebirds took took a firm grip on the game by scoring twice inside seven first-half minutes.
Anthony Pilkington fired them in front with a stunning goal in the 26th minute. The former Norwich man cut in from the left and arrowed an unstoppable shot from 25 yards to the top corner of the net, giving goalkeeper Mark Halstead no chance.
Cardiff quickly doubled their advantage when Peter Whittingham's corner from the left was headed in by powerful striker Frederic Gounongbe.
Mellon made nine changes at half time with two unnamed trialists among the substitutes. Central defenders Lancashire and McGivern were the only Shrewsbury men from the first-half side to reappear.
Cardiff's new boss Paul Trollope decided the time was right to ring the changes after an hour by replacing his entire starting XI at the same time.
The visitors moved further clear in the 70th minute when Tom James glanced in a header from Craig Noone's free kick.
It was quickly 4-0 to Cardiff as Kenneth Zohore charged down a clearance from keeper Callum Burton following an underhit back pass from Junior Brown before tapping in a fourth.
Town chances were in short supply but Tyrone Barnett came closest to a goal when his header was well kept out by keeper Simon Moore, diving sharply to his left.
Shrewsbury will continue their preparations for the new League One season with a friendly at home to Birmingham City on Tuesday night.
