Junior Brown fighting for Shrewsbury place
Junior Brown admits it's going to be difficult to regain his Shrewsbury Town left-back spot next season.
The versatile 27-year-old had double cause for celebration last week when he signed a new two-year deal.
He returned to fitness after damaged knee ligaments kept him out for the last seven games of the season. In his place, Mat Sadler returned to the side and did a reliable job.
The competition at left-back has also increased with the arrival of Northern Ireland international Ryan McGivern, who has played all but the last two years of his career in that position.
Brown, who made 40 appearances last season, said: "'Sads' (Mat Sadler) came in and did exceptionally well, to be fair to him.
"It's always nice to have somebody who's such a nice lad get their opportunity and do well. It's going to be difficult now because I'm going to have to try to prove myself again to get my position back."
Brown arrived from Mansfield as a winger last summer, before ousting Sadler at left-back, and insists he is up for the challenge for his place.
He continued: "It's going to be a tough fight over pre-season and one I'm up for – and one I'm sure he's up for."
While his team-mates have enjoyed a break, Brown has worked hard over the summer and has regained full fitness.
He added: "I could have just left it and done nothing, but the right thing to do was come in and work to get it right," he added.
