Shrewsbury's Sullay Kaikai picks up award
Shrewsbury Town winger Sullay Kaikai has been warned not to let his latest award go to his head after being named League One Player of the Month.
The on-loan Crystal Palace star has been honoured for his five goals in five games in March, by being named by a football panel for the divisional award for last month.
Kaikai was also nominated along with Shaun Whalley for the PFA's version of the award voted for by fans, which he won in October.
He has scored 11 goals in 20 games for Town over his two loan spells. Manager Micky Mellon said: "We're delighted for him and it's thoroughly deserved.
"It's just reward for a fantastic month for a terrific young player. He's a talented lad and he's got a very promising future but he's got to keep doing it."
Kaikai has become something of a marked man and Mellon has stressed the hard work starts now for the 20-year-old.
The Town boss said: "The last thing he wants to do now is start looking back and patting himself on the back.
"We spoke to him the other day about what he's got to do to keep adapting and the need to change his game now because a lot of people will be well aware of him."
With his South London roots and connections, Kaikai will arguably be one of the only Shrewsbury 'names' known by Millwall fans tomorrow.
Mellon expects him to deal with any reaction that comes his way and is confident the youngster can deliver on his stunning potential.
He said: "I don't think he'll be bothered. If you're going to play in the Premier League, then he's got to take it in his stride.
"This is all part of his development. He has to find a way. Good players will get close to you when you've got the ball and make it difficult for you to get the better of them."
