Sullay Kaikai wants 15 goals for Shrewsbury

Winger Sullay Kaikai believes he is in the best place to flourish after resetting his sights on a 15-goal target for Shrewsbury Town.

The 20-year-old, on loan from Crystal Palace, had the pick of Championship clubs in the loan window.

But he instead opted for a return to the Greenhous Meadow after doing so well there earlier in the season.

Kaikai: "The gaffer (Palace boss Alan Pardew) knows how good the manager is at Shrewsbury – and his assistant (Mike Jackson). He knows, under them, I'm going to get better.

"He (Mellon) gives me licence when the ball is on the opposite side to join in play and not just be standing out wide.

"The decision to come back was the best one because I'd had success here already. The gaffer (Pardew) was comfortable with me going back there and so was I.

"Each week, I'm getting better and understanding the game as well. We go through positioning stuff the day before a match."

Kaikai has been one of the stand-out performers in League One and helped to put eight points between Town and the bottom four.

He has set the place alight on his return with five goals in as many games to take his tally to 10 in 19 League matches for the season.

Kaikai initially set himself a 15-goal target but revised it to 10 after missing so many games in between his two spells with Town.

But he is happy to re-set it again to 15 after his current prolific run.

The Southwark-born youngster has hit the target set by Mark Bright, whose role is to monitor and mentor Palace players out on loan.

Kaikai said: "When I re-signed I set myself a figure of 15 and I've got the games left to do that.

"Mark comes to certain games, not every one. Afterwards he'll talk to us about our performances and give some constructive criticism.

"It is always good to know about bad things in your game. I try to improve on them straight away. I listen to his advice."

Meanwhile, Kaikai revealed he didn't even know he had the hamstring injury which prevented him getting a Premier League crack with Palace.

He was recalled in December as injuries hit, only to be sidelined just after being named in the match day 18 for a 1-1 draw at Swansea.

Kaikai said: "It was the first time I've ever had a hamstring injury. I didn't know if that was what it was or just a bit of cramp.

"When I got called back to Palace I had a scan and it revealed it. I was out for four to six weeks. It was a shame. Once I was back, others were available."
