Shrewsbury Town almost at full strength

Manager Micky Mellon is hoping to have virtually his entire Shrewsbury Town squad available for the Good Friday showdown against Port Vale.

James Wesolowski makes his long-awaited comeback in the reserves this afternoon.

The Town boss is waiting on Jayson Leutwiler, Matt Tootle, Zak Whitbread and Jermaine Grandison for the Shropshire-Staffordshire derby.

In addition, Ian Black returns from his two-match ban and Nathaniel Knight-Percival has escaped a similar suspension, even though he picked up his 10th booking of the season in Saturday's 2-2 draw against Bury.

Dominic Smith is away on international duty with Wales Under-21s and the loss of Knight-Percival might have left Town with no senior fit centre-backs.

But Mellon said: "I'm hoping they will all be available for Port Vale. Everyone is in my plans.

"Jermaine pulled out on Saturday morning with his hip injury again and Zak never really recovered from Thursday's training, so he's been put back a little bit.

"Jayson is training – he can make all the saves, but he's just not kicking at the moment. James Wallace is running but it's probably too early for him to play a game.

"Wesolowski will play in the reserves against Bradford so that's a big plus for us and we've got Ian Black back from his suspension."

All bookings are reset to zero after the second Sunday in March, so Knight-Percival has avoided disciplinary action.

Smith, Wesolowski and Wallace (knee) are likely to be the only absentees for Friday's clash, which launches four home games in the next five fixtures for Town.

Mellon feels the postponement of the Easter Monday derby at Walsall due to international call-ups will help him have a stronger squad available.

He said: "It gives a chance to a lot of players who are on the verge of being fit a chance to play in that game."
