Mike Jackson: Town are not safe

Shrewsbury Town would be 'foolish' to think they are safe – as Mike Jackson warned them against complacency.

Tuesday's hard-earned 2-1 win against Coventry lifted Micky Mellon's side eight points clear of safety up to 17th with 11 games left.

Town are now six games unbeaten in League One and, after taking 14 points from 18, go into Saturday's visit of Scunthorpe as one of the form teams having repaired their home form with back-to-back wins at Greenhous Meadow.

But assistant boss Jackson believes they can't afford to think they are out of trouble yet.

"I think it would be foolish to say that. What we've got to do is build on these performances with consistency," said Jackson.

"That (Coventry win) was just a little step closer to getting there, but we're nowhere near being safe – no chance."

Jackson believes the post-January makeover has transformed the team.

"The players have changed over time and that group has come together and there's a new dynamic to the team," he said.

Meanwhile, defender Dom Smith has signed anew two-year contract.

"It's an honour to play for the club and I want to do it for as long as possible," he said.
